Tag Tuesday: Reading Habits

Hello, biblios!

I tried to find the original version of this tag on YouTube, but all the links in other people's videos went to broken or missing accounts or videos. So, apologies for not being able to properly credit, but that's the nature of the internet sometimes ...

I've seen this one on many channels, but I specifically remembered Hardback Hoarder's (aka my name twin, Alison).

Reading is basically my only habit, so let's delve into the habits of my habit!

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Not really, although I'm working on it! Up till now, I've mostly just read on my sofa, or my bed if it's right before going to sleep. But I moved to a new apartment a few months ago where I was able to turn the dining area into a reading room, and I have a nice big chair in there. I just have to get an ottoman and a lamp and a few more things, and that will be my reading spot.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

BOOKMARKS! I have dozens of them, even though I only ever read one book at a time. I just love collecting them and having fun ones to use in pictures and such.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter or certain amount of pages?

I hate stopping in the middle of a chapter, and prefer to at least have a page break to stop at, because stopping in the middle of a page or paragraph makes it harder for me to get back into it. I feel like I have to go back and read the previous page or so.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Drink usually, yeah, tea or soda or whatever. I don't often read while eating because I use that time (if I'm not working) to watch Booktube videos or whatnot.

5. Music or TV while reading?

No way. Certainly nothing with lyrics or dialogue because it's too distracting. I suppose listening to strictly instrumental music that's not too raucous could be fine, but I prefer silence.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

As noted above, I only read one book at a time. It wouldn't work for me to be in the middle of multiple stories; I would definitely get minor things mixed up. Plus, once I start a book ... I want to finish it! This thing where people say, "Oh yeah, I started this a few months ago and I really need to finish it" just confuses me. Don't you want to know what happens?

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Well, for the last year and a half, I've worked from home, and prior to that I was on long-term disability for almost six years ... so I have spent the vast majority of my time at home for a while now. However, before that, and possibly in the future, hell yes read everywhere. I definitely bring a book if I go to the doctor or somewhere else that I'll be sitting and waiting for a while.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Sometimes I might read a line or a passage out loud if it's really strong and moving, or if it's a little unclear and I'm trying to figure out what the fuck the author was trying to say, LOL. But in general, silently.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Nah, not really, although in certain long ass books I might do a little skimming in the extra boring parts.

10. Break the spine or keep it like new?

I'm not a diehard about it, but I do prefer to keep them looking new. They just look prettier on the shelf that way!

11. Do you write in your books?

No, I don't think I could get myself to do that. It would feel ... sacrilegious or something, LOL.

12. Who do you tag?

Well, this is a blog and no one follows it yet, so ... no one? Everyone? Who knows!

If you actually happen to be reading this ... do you share any of my responses? Are you on the other side of some? Do tell!
